Latest GPS testing
By globalpi on Dec 15, 2011 | In Announcements | Send feedback »
As many of you may know, GLOBAL PI SUPPLY, likes to test many products before we add them to our site. This is especially true when it comes to REAL TIME GPS TRACKING SYSTEMS.
A few months ago, we were in communication with two very different companies.
One was based in the USA and the other in Eastern Europe.
The USA company had a very good mapping software and control panel. The pricing for the hardware was not too bad.
The pricing for the per month UNLIMITED access per unit was industry average.
The kicker that got us looking at their system in a serious manner was the fact that they also offered a WHITE LABLE software package where you paid an intial up front fee for the sofwware to be on your own server, plus a small fee per user.
We looked at all the numbers and it looked like a pretty good LONG TERM investment that could result in a good retirement residual income.
Now of course we did not just jump in an layout the several thousand dollars for the pot of gold at the end of the tunnel.
First, we wanted to purchase two of their hardware models and see how they performed on a month to month basis paying the normal startup fee plus monthly access.
Besides, that would only be about a $1,000.00 up front and even if we did not go with the WHITE LABEL later on, we can always use a few more GPS REAL TIME TRACKING SYSTEMS
in our stock for our investgators.
That was back in September, 2011. This is being written in December, 2011.
We still do not have the hardware and we are being billed every month for the access.
Neeedless to say, we have filed a REVERAL on our credit card for failure to provide what was paid for but it just goes to show- What you see is not always what you get.
As an extra on this portion - we found the company that REALLY has the software we liked so much. They are very aware of the culpert we had to initiate the REVERSAL on and they are also involved in litigation with him.
Now for company #2: Eastern Europe based.
Ordered one unit from them because they offered a great per month fee for unlimited access per unit.
The unti arrived in orderly time.
Opened it up and........ Hmmmmmmm.. a little bigger than we thought.....no magetic mounts supplied to test it under a vehicle and.. WHAT THE.????.. no SIM card.
Well, that did not go over well. They quoted a price- We sent a wire transfer for that amount
( which cost us an additional $30.00 on top on our end) so it should not be our fault that their bank
took a fee on that end too.
The second part- NO SIM CARD to access their server:
Response: That is extra too.
Question: Any special card and where do we get it?
Response: Contact this supplier and they will set us up. The supplier deals with them all the time.
Ok.. we contacted the CANADIAN head office for the SIM CARD supplier.
They replied and sent us a link to their USA based agent.
Hang on a second- we are in CANADA - Why deal with a USA agent when head office is in Canada?
He replies- he would like to set up a time to talk and introduce their product line.
We don't want that right now- Just tell us how to order the darn SIM card.
That was almost 4 weeks ago. Still waiting for a response to that e-mail and the one that followed just in case he lost the first one asking for a means to get the card.
BTW: Four days ago, the GPS manufacturer sent us an e-mail asking what the hold up was for getting the unit up for testing on a demo acccount. We reponded- can't do anything until people stop dropping the ball- it needs a special sim card and we are being ignored by the agent for that part.
Now, if I was the manufacturer of the GPS unit, I would have had this problem fixed pretty darn fast..or better still.. pre-program one and ship it with the hardware at the onset.
Some companies just don't get it.. what do you think?
Second phase of attempt to get me
By globalpi on Mar 27, 2011 | In Announcements | Send feedback »
Feeling pretty good about the earlier service mentioned, I felt a little less at ease when my client called and said- sorry- we messed up- you need to serve her again with more papers.
Well. this one was going to be harder. There was no way of going to the front door and trying to reason with her. It would all come down to "CATCH HER OUTSIDE AGAIN".
I began my spot checks to see if there was a pattern to the vehicle being at the residence or away.
Phase one- Done.
While in the area, that G.D. gut feeling hit me again- Pull out the NEW papers. Put them on the seat- Check the rear view- There she is. Now what are the chances of that?
She was obviously wary of my vehicle as she slowed down while behind me. No sense in spooking her so I kept my speed up and made a turn at the next street past her residence. ABOUT TURN (ambulance u-turns work wonders)
Slide back to the corner. Her vehicle was in the driveway but was she in it?
Pull up and block- get out Quickly- Step to the far left side of her vehicle just incase she........BACK UP LIGHTS ON- HERE SHE COMES!!!
Step aside to the left QUICKLY. She is like a a sow protecting her young as she pulls ahead, turns the wheel and takes a second run at me. Step further left. Not to be thwarted by my elusive ( survivor) moves, she pulled ahead and tried for a third shot almost hitting her own fence. Hmmmmmmmm. fence-- USE THE FENCE..
Well, I guess she didn't care about the fence as it was only a object in her way. Attempt #4 was through the f ence... but she still missed. I guess that really "TICKED" (I am being nice here) her off as she then pulled forward- drove across her front lawn- parked and ran for the house.
So.. she tried twice before- four times on this attendance- will I get her served??
Of course. She can run to the house but silly lady (again- used loosley)- she stopped to yell at me from her front door- looking right at me-"I HAVE YOUR PLATE" as I was standing beside her vehicle showing her the papers in the air (made sure she was aware of them) and placeing them under the.......Yes.. you got it... Front windshield wiper of her vehicle and calling back to her- "No problem I have you served- Again"
Now.. why did I post this? To remind all others- Trust you gut- Don't let your guard down and keep those feet moving- especially when the quick movement might save your life.
BTW: Charges are still being looked at- Assault with a weapon at the bottom end. "Attempted" may be looked at by crown as she tried so many times but I would be happy with assault with intentent or assault with a weapon.
Any comments? Be sure to send me an e-mail letting me know you have posted a comment as I do not get back here as oftemn as I should to admit posts. If could figure out how to make that an automatic thing in the program, It would help
Private Investigator Serving Process almost killed
By globalpi on Mar 27, 2011 | In Announcements | Send feedback »
I know this has nothing to do with the evolution of products used in the industry but felt it may be of some insight and worthy of discuss from those in the industry / profession of Private Investigation and Process Serving.
I, myself, am a license Private Investigator in British Columbia, Canada. I have been so licensed for the past 31 years.
During the course of my work, I also serve Process. ( legal papers- civil). This blog entry is about how we must be ever vigilant when effecting service on a person. It could save your life.
For several months, I had been tracking down this Female person ( being female has nothing to do with it- just a fact of the matter). Finally, I found her. I had enough in my hands as FACT to prove that even if she denied being the person named on the papers, I could prove otherwise and effect service.
I attended the residence. It was an ill kept single family dwelling that appeared to have more than a single family living in it. Found her vehicle in the driveway. Attended the front door-Stood to the side (always a smart thing to do- especially at night) and knocked. A male voice answered from the other side of the door. I asked for the person named- said I had a delivery for her. The male replied- no person here by that name. At that same time, I heard a female voice inside asking "WHO WANTS TO DELIVERY TO HER- WHO ARE YOU?"
This first stage of interaction had me watching windows on a" just in case" basis.
Hearing a female voice, I asked again for the person named. Again, I was told that there was nobody living there by that name. My simple reply was- YES THERE IS AND I CAN PROVE IT- IF THAT IS YOU (leave out her name), you may as well open the door and speak to me.
As many well know, the world is full of WANNA BE lawyers. The next response was right out of the hand book- "WHO ARE YOU- A COP? S DO YOU HAVE A WARRANT?
I denied being a police officer ( which is the truth- I am not) and decided to take the high road and be truthful when they were not.
No- I am not a cop- I don't need a warrant as nobody is being searched or arrested- I am prvate investigator and I need to speak to (leave her name out).
"We told you- She does not live here" was the response.
Yes she does and I suspect that the lady (almost bit my tongue on that word) I hear is most likely the owner of the ( named vehicle in the driveway). It is in her name and regostered to this address.
How do you know that- they asked.
Because I did my homework.
Well.. the long and short of the above was- they were not opening the door and not about to admit to being the person named. This meant that I had more work ahead of me. The only way of getting her served would be to catch her outside the house. That is where this blog gets into the SAFTEY portion.
Quite a few days later, while in the area of the house, I had a GUT feeling and pulled the papers out of my case and put them on the seat beside me. A few blocks away, as is normal practice anyways, I looked in my rear view and what should I see behind me? The vehicle that belongs to her. She was heading home.
I pulled over and left her pass. As she pulled into her driveway, I pulled up and put my vehicle across the driveway and got out.
First rule of thumb- Get out quickly- as I did
Second rule- approach from the side- Glad I did. She saw me and put her vehicle in reverse spinning her rear wheels.
Next rule- step aside out of her side mirror line of site.
She turned her wheel and found me in her side view- took another run at me- Step aside again and take a wide berth of the vehicle approaching the drivers door. ( this always shockes them when you show up standing beside their drivers door)
Well, the profanities started and she tried to pull ahead to get another run at me but being that close gives you another option- Put the papers under the front windshield wiper and step back- SERVED. Now get out of there and leave QUICKLY.
Next post- Client messed up and I had to serve her again with more papers
